About the Event
Come and join me from the comfort of your own home for an online workshop, and discover some of the many ways in which preserving wild food can prolong the shelf life of the food you have gathered. The history of food preservation is long, and much of the knowledge and use of the methods has fallen from daily use with the advancement of techonology, but as foragers that often ancient knowledge can help us to make the most of our wild harvests, so nothing goes to waste and we get to enjoy delicious preserves all year round.
- What to Expect -
🌱Learn what it means to forage  and what how we can forage safely and within the law.
🌱We'll talk briefly about the history of preserving and how this has changed, and what it means for us as foragers.
🌱We'll cover seven different preserving methods and their processes, and how you can use them at home. Dehydrating and salting, as some of the oldest methods, using sugar for preserves like jam, syrups and cordials, using vinegar for pickling and chutneys and finally freezing as well.
🌱Learn about the benefits and drawbacks of each preserving method and which wild edibles work best with each technique.
🌱I'll be sharing recipes for each of these methods which will make use of wild ingredients, specifically Spring edibles where possible.
🌱All attendees will recipe a free .pdf detailing all of the methods and recipes mentioned after the workshop has finished.
This will be a very relaxed workshop with plenty of time for questions, so while the focus will primarily be on preserving wild food, I'll be more than happy to answer foraging related questions as well. The main workshop will last for about an hour, but there will be plenty of time for questions after the workshop has finished.
- What to Bring -
Feel free to bring a notepad and pen if you wish to take your own notes.
